The fourth industrial revolution is upon us and people may not realize it. This industrial revolution has to do with our advancing technology and ideas.
What is an Industrial Revolution?
The industrial revolution was a period of time when people saw a huge leap in technology and manufacturing. Things like railroads and trains were invented during this time providing transportation across the country for the first time.
The revolution definition is of new social order or new system. It’s usually in reference to an overthrow of a government, but that’s not the case with this particular revolution.
When was the Industrial Revolution?
The first industrial revolution took place during the early 18th and 19th centuries. Before the industrial revolution, manufacturing was done in people’s homes by hand. This was a long process because it all depended on how fast the manufacturer could work.
The Industrial Revolution marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories, and the birth of mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played a central role.

The Second Industrial Revolution
The second revolution happened in the late 19th century and is known as the technological revolution. This is because advancements in manufacturing and production technology, like the creation of the moving assembly line, allowed preexisting technology systems to spread.
Inventions like the telegraph, railroad networks, gas and water supply, and sewage systems were only in a few cities. People in rural communities didn’t have access to such luxuries. This inclusion allowed for a huge movement of people and ideas which resulted in a new wave of globalization.
Also during this time electrical power and telephones were introduced.
The Third Industrial Revolution
The third industrial revolution is the digital revolution and the current one. It’s called the digital revolution because of the creation of the internet and everything that has stemmed from that.
Just like with the second revolution, this one is all about the advancement in technologies and the widespread of that tech. There is better software, new processes to making things, and a lot more access to the world through the internet.
The oil and other fossil fuel industries that the country grew up on are aging and failing. Now manufacturing is going digital and robots are getting more intelligent. This has led to people working in factories to lose their jobs.
What Will Be Affected
We are on the brink of the fourth industrial revolution. It’ll build on the third and begin to blur the lines between the physical, digital, biological spheres.
Technology will be the most affected in this revolution. With fields like 3D printing, robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and more getting better every day, it’ll be interesting to see what stems from that.
We already have self-driving cars and AI assistants. Imagine what will become of AI as more developments occur.
As automation increase though, machines and computers will replace workers in multiple industries. This will lead to many job losses.
It’s estimated that this new revolution will benefit the rich more than the poor. This is because all the low wage jobs will disappear with automation. This is consistent with the other revolutions. The rich get the benefits until everything levels out after many years.
If people aren’t prepared, they may get left behind in this new revolution. In particular, people in the government. Experts studying this revolution fear that many government officials think too linear and will not be able to regulate the technology properly.
Same goes for businesses. If they can’t think outside of the box, then they will be left behind and eventually go out of business.
Healthcare will become accessible to everyone in the world in this new revolution. AI will play a huge role in addressing problems with personalizing medicine and interventions.
AI has already started using big data analysis to improve healthcare services. For example, IBM Watson for Oncology has the ability to analyze a patient’s data and give personalized treatment plans that combine things from the patient’s file, clinical expertise, and external research and data.
We can identify patterns in huge data sets of genetic information and medical records. This can help us find mutations and linkages in diseases and personalizing the treatment. This will increase the efficacy of the treatment of chronic illnesses, which is a huge problem in America right now.

The fourth industrial revolution is a fascinating subject. It will do you good to do more research if you are interested, it seems like the possibilities are endless.
For the rest of public, we will just have to watch what happens.
